  • Lake Merritt and the Garden Center are represented with four events including the on-going Lake Merritt Institute.
  • There are pages of neighborhood, street, median and park cleanups.
  • Between Sausal Creek and Arroyo Viejo Creek there are almost a dozen volunteer opportunities in Oakland's creeks including habitat restoration, seed collection and a Winter Solstice planting party on December 15th.
  • Are family and friends visiting Oakland this holiday season? Share the beauty of Oakland's parks, medians and creeks while lending a hand to the environment. Just call the contact person to verify the time and location.

• October 2007 - October is a busy month for volunteers in Oakland! Attached is Public Works' monthly calendar of over 25 opportunities to give back to Oakland's parks, medians, streets, creeks and open spaces, including the following three events:
• Oakland Parks Coalition - Love your Park Day on October 13, 2007. http://oaklandparks.org/partner_one.htm (to sign up). Become a Park Steward - A Park Steward is a volunteer activist who works with appropriate city agencies to monitor the well-being of city park resources and to ensure that the city responds in a timely and effective manner when a problem arises.
• Joaquin Miller Park - V-O-Cal is partnering with the City of Oakland and Council Member Jean Quan to organize a large community trail improvement weekend and camp out in Joaquin Miller Park, October 6 & 7, 2007. Volunteers will improve four trails in the park and help to create safer trail connections. Sign-up today. We expect this popular project to fill-up! - http://www.v-o-cal.org/ (to sign up)
• Plant Daffodils - Plant Daffodils this fall - Imagine 200,000 daffodils blooming all over Oakland this spring. Deadline to submit a Request for Bulbs Form is October 5, 2007. - http://www.oaklandpw.com/Page287.aspx (to sign up)
• September 2007 - Saturday, September 15th is Creek to Bay Day! When was the last time you gave something back to your local waterway??

• May 2007 - Check out all of the events in our creeks this month and the Great American Cleanup on Saturday, May 12th!
• April 2007 - April 21st is Earth Day . Please join us at sites around Oakland!
• March 2007 - Mark your calendars and join Oakland's volunteers. Last year they donated over 60,000 hours of their time to beautifying Oakland. Check out the new volunteer logo. The City of Oakland gives it heartfelt thanks for all the great things that volunteers do for Oakland
• February 2007 - There are five volunteer locations alone this Saturday, February 3rd and a total of 16 events in February to choose from. Please encourage folks of all ages to come out into Oakland's parks to lend a hand while the winter weather is so mild. What a great opportunity.
• January 2007 - Please note the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, Service for Peace, on Monday, January 15th, at various locations throughout the City.
