APWA Accreditation

The City of Oakland Public Works Agency was nationally accredited by the American Public Works Association (APWA), and was being recognized at the 2006 APWA International Public Works Congress and Exposition on September 11, 2006 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Oakland is only the 2nd city and 3rd government municipality in California, and the 35th in North America to receive this prestigious recognition.

The APWA Accreditation Program formally verifies and recognizes public works organizations throughout the nation for compliance with recommended practices established within the public works industry as set forth in its Public Works Management Practices Manual. "It is an incredible honor to be recognized among the best Public Works agencies in the country by our peers in APWA," stated Raul Godinez II, Oakland Public Works Agency Director.

"I am extremely proud of our Public Works Agency’s accreditation by the APWA. I know they do a great job of designing, constructing and maintaining our infrastructure—and responding to emergencies like this past winter’s storms. This recognition is well deserved. I hope that Oakland's accreditation with flying colors will increase public confidence in the excellence of our Public Works Department," stated Council Member Nancy Nadel, Chair of the Council Public Works Committee.
